Match Report: Tevez, Morata Edge Juventus Past Madrid

Tevez, Morata  Edge Juventus Past Madrid

Juventus defeat Real Madrid two goals to one in Turin on Tuesday to grab the advantage in their UEFA Champions League semi-final tie.

Former Real Madrid starlet Alvaro Morata and Argentine Carlos Tevez got the crucial goals that helped the Serie A Champions beat UEFA Champions League defending champions on Tuesday night.
The Juventus strikers scored either side of a Cristiano Ronaldo goal to give the Italian giants a lead to protect at the Santiago Bernabeu next week.

Juventus, who wrapped up their fourth straight Serie A title over the weekend, entered this tie in the highest of spirits, and was quickly rewarded when Morata tucked in a rebound after a low effort from Tevez had been parried by Casillas.

Real responded well and Buffon had to be alert to keep out a fierce Toni Kroos long distance shot.
Madrid continued to boss possession but Juventus defended stoutly and resorted to testing the Spanish giants on the counter.

The last time these two teams met in Turin in the group stages last term they split the points after a 2-2 draw. Ronaldo was the star in that encounter and he was the man to come to Real’s rescue just before the half hour mark with the equaliser.

James Rodriguez spotted the run of the Portuguese star into the box and wasted no time in hooking the ball into the six-yard area. No one was watching the run of Ronaldo, who proceeded to beat Buffon to the punch and nod home from a yard out.

It was Ronaldo’s 54th goal in all competitions this season and a massive away goal for los Blancos.
Madrid were the closest to taking the lead before half time with a diving header from James Rodriguez crashing off the upright.

The scores stood at 1-1 as the two sides went into the break but it was the Serie A outfit that came out of the dressing room the brighter and were soon rewarded with a penalty kick after Carvajal fell Tevez in side the box.

The former Manchester United forward stepped up with supreme confidence, slamming the ball down the centre as Casillas dived out of the way giving Juventus a priceless lead.

Madrid were rattled and Juventus had a few more opportunities to add a third. The second half petered out, though, as a defensive masterclass from the Old Lady stymied Madrid’s hopes for a second away goal.

At full time, Buffon lead the emphatic Juventus celebrations as the Bianconeri secured a well-earned 2-1 success against Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie.
