Don’t expect much from Eagles – Akwuegbu

Former Nigeria international Benedict Akwuegbu has said Nigerians should be patient with the new Super Eagles under Stephen Keshi and should not expect the team to be flying from the start.
Keshi has said he will rebuild the team in his second stint in charge.
Gratkorn FC of Austria manager Akwuegbu said he therefore expects a new team, who need time to play together to understand themselves and so play as a team.
“I know that Nigerians want the Super Eagles on top, performing well again to the admiration of Nigerians, but I am calling on the fans not to expect too much from the team yet,” Akwuegbu said.
“This is a new-look team for now as many new players both home and abroad are being called into the team and because the players are new to themselves, they need time to train together, understand themselves and play like a team.
“As time goes on they will form a good understanding and be the Super Eagles we can be proud of again.”
The Eagles made up of players from the Nigeria premier league began training in Abuja on Friday ahead of next month’s AFCON qualifier against Chad in Kaduna.
Keshi is expected to call up their foreign-based counterparts next week.
