Luis Suarez: Gerrard Adviced Me Not To Join Arsenal, It Would Have Been A Mistake

Barcelona forward Luis Suarez has claimed that Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard stopped the him from joining Arsenal in his new book.

In his new autobiography, ‘Luis Suarez: Crossing the Line – My Story’, the Uruguayan goal-poacher claims that the inspirational Liverpool captain stopped him ‘making a mistake’ by joining the north London club according to talkSPORT.
The 27-year-old revealed how he and the former England captain had a meeting at Liverpool’s Melwood training base where the Anfield captain told the Uruguayan to bide his time, impress on Merseyside and then leave for one of the world’s top-three clubs.
“It would have been a big error that I would have made had it not been for Steven Gerrard,” Suarez said.
“We spoke about this when I went to Melwood to pick up my things at the end of the summer and he said: ‘You did the right thing, you waited until the best moment.’
“He had told me [the previous summer] to play well for Liverpool, give it another year and it will be Bayern Munich, Real Madrid or Barcelona coming for you and then you can go where you want, because you have the quality to play at any of those three clubs.”.
This however came true as Suarez secured a huge £75 million move to Spanish giant FC Barcelona but has made just a few appearances for the Catalan giants after serving a four month ban for biting Georgio Chiellini at the world cup.
However, he also spoke out about the transfer saying that whole ordeal was like a ‘covert operation’ and what Barca boss Luis Enrique said upon the first day of training that Suarez was allowed to part-take in: “Well, they have finally got him out of Guantanamo to be here with us today for training…”
