Iheanacho: Super Eagles star scheduled for medical at Middlesbrough

One-time EFL Cup winners, Middlesbrough, are set to sign Sevilla and Super Eagles striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, on a six-month loan deal, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 28-year-old attacker moved to Spain from Leicester City last summer on a free deal, but life in Spain hasn’t gone well for the former Manchester City man.

As a result, the club have tried to resolve Iheanacho’s future, after they signed another Nigerian forward, Akor Adams, from Ligue 1 side, Montpellier.

As per Yahoo Sports, Middlesbrough are closing in on the loan signing of Kelechi Iheanacho, with the striker set to begin a medical at Rockliffe Park today ahead of completing a switch from Sevilla.

The EFL Championships side have agreed the terms of a loan deal with Sevilla that will see Iheanacho move to the Riverside for the remainder of the season, and the Nigerian forward is in England to seal the transfer.

The Teessiders will pay the higher percentage of Iheanacho’s wage during his loan spell in England and it is understood that discussions are ongoing about whether a clause for a permanent transfer will be included as part of the deal.

Iheanacho scored three goals in 11 outings for Sevilla, with all three coming in the Copa Del Rey. He has been allowed to leave on a temporary basis to increase his chances of securing regular game time in the second half of the season, with the hopes that his loan spell will prompt a sale in the summer.

Alongside Iheanacho, Middlesbrough are set to sign Samuel Iling-Junior, from Aston Villa. Michael Carrick’s side are just outside the play-offs spots in the EFL Championships and want to reinforce their attack as they look to gain promotion to the English top-flight.
