Iwobi’s stunning strike seals historic 3-2 win for Fulham against Liverpool

Super Eagles and Fulham attacking midfielder, Alex Iwobi, was at his creative best as his side stunned Liverpool at Craven Cottage, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 28-year-old is enjoying his most prolific football season and looks like a rejuvenated player under Coach Marco Silva.

Iwobi has featured in all of Fulham‘s English Premier League games this season, coming off the bench in just one, which shows his vitality for the Europe-chasing Cottagers.

2022 FIFA World Cup winner, Alexis Mac Allister, broke the deadlock in the 14th minute, going on a mazy solo run before blasting the ball beyond Bernd Leno from 25 yards out. A truly stunning goal.

Fulham responded nine minutes later through Ryan Sessegnon. The Englishman profited off a poor clearance from Liverpool’s defenders to strike a half-volley past Caoimhin Kelleher after Timothy Castagne’s work on the right side of the pitch.

Two minutes after the half-hour mark, Iwobi put Fulham in front. After a failed attempt to strike the ball with his right foot, it fell kindly to him, and at the second time of asking, the ex-Arsenal man put the ball into the top corner of Liverpool’s goal to score his 8th league goal this campaign.

Five minutes later, the Super Eagles midfielder turned provider for Brazilian striker, Rodrigo Muniz. Iwobi cleared the ball from an outswinging corner kick, but a brilliant touch from Muniz saw Van Dijk struggle to catch the 23-year-old striker, before he buried the ball to take Fulham two goals up. The assist was Iwobi’s 5th this campaign.

Colombian winger, Luis Diaz, pulled one back for Arne Slot’s side in the 72nd minute, but Marco Silva’s side held on for a win against Liverpool, their first against the Merseysiders since March 2021. It was also Fulham’s first home win against Liverpool since December 2011.

Fulham are now 8th in the English Premier League table, two points behind Newcastle and three behind Aston Villa, as they look to qualify for the UEFA Europa League.

For Liverpool, today’s loss was just a slight mishap, as they’re still in pole position to be crowned Champions when the season winds up in May.
