Zimbabwe’s Warriors get huge boost from government ahead of Super Eagles clash in Uyo

Zimbabwe’s government has reinforced its support for the national football team by offering a substantial financial incentive ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria, Soccernet.ng reports.

In a bid to motivate the Warriors, President Emmerson D. Mnangagwa has pledged a $150,000 winning bonus to be shared among players, the technical team, and support staff for every victory in their qualification campaign.

This means Zimbabwe would earn this substantial amount if they secure all points against Nigeria on March 25 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

Zimbabwe’s Receives World Cup Qualification Boost

Having already allocated $1 million for the Warriors’ participation in the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Finals, a government statement confirmed the financial boost and urged Zimbabweans to rally behind the team as they aim for a historic qualification.

“This support underscores the Government’s unwavering commitment to the growth and success of football in Zimbabwe and the aspirations of the Warriors as they strive for World Cup qualification. The nation is urged to rally behind the team, as they carry our hopes and pride onto the field,” part of the statement read.

Can Zimbabwe Upset Nigeria in Uyo?

The Warriors secured a dramatic comeback from 2-nil down when they faced Gernot Rohr’s Benin Republic at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in South Africa this evening.

This puts Nigeria on alert for what is to be expected when they play host to the Southern Africans at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo. Zimbabwe, who still sit at the bottom of the group standing, will be hoping to capitalize on their last draw in the qualifying clash.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles have only managed three points from their first four matches, which put them under immense pressure to turn their fortunes around.

Zimbabwe will be inspired by the financial rewards and also by the opportunity to make a statement against the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations Champions in Uyo.
