“World-class” – Zimbabwe coach lauds Nigeria’s hospitality, impressed by training facilities

The head coach of the Zimbabwean national team, Michael Nees, has been in awe of the training facilities provided by the Nigerian Football Federation ahead of the Warriors fixture against the Super Eagles on Tuesday, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Warriors are currently bottom of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers group while the Super Eagles are 4th after their 2-0 win against Rwanda last Friday.

Zimbabwe are in town ahead of their clash against Eric Chelle‘s side tomorrow, and their head coach has been pleased with the hospitable environment in the country, alongside the world-class training facilities provided by the NFF.

What Coach Nees said

“The hotel is fine, we’ve settled in. We were delayed yesterday because our flight was cancelled, so we lost a couple of hours. The hotel is very spacious, I think we cannot complain about that, that was the former hotel of Nigeria, who have moved now to another hotel,” Nees said in an interview with the Warriors media team.

“The training pitch, I think you can see for yourself, we would be happy to have something like this in our own country; really very good, impressed. The training pitch is soft, not too hard. The stadium pitch, I expect even better.”

“It looks good, our intensity isn’t on maximum level yet, so we have to manage the workload on the players, considering the travel. Travelling takes its toll, but we’re satisfied with how it’s going so far.

We’re halfway through the campaign, and Nigeria, through the squad and the names, are just top-class. They messed it up at the beginning, I think it’s their third coach now in these qualifiers. They won against a difficult opponent in Rwanda.

“They want to turn this campaign around, so they’ll come with all power and confidence. It will be an exciting game. We will give everything as well,” the German gaffer said about his side’s preparation ahead of the game tomorrow.

Tuesday is shaping up to be a pivotal day in Group C. Nigeria must win against Zimbabwe, but just as crucially, they need Benin to take down South Africa. Kick-off time for the Super Eagles game is 5:00 WAT, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
