“We’ll make the World Cup – Ola Aina and Alex Iwobi calm Nigerians after Zimbabwe draw

Super Eagles stars Alex Iwobi and Ola Aina have taken to social media to reassure the Nigerian football community that the team is still on course to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Soccernet.ng reports.

The draw on home soil dealt a blow to Nigeria’s qualification hopes, which leaves the 2013 AFCON champions fourth in Group C with seven points from five matches—six points behind group leaders South Africa.

In a bid to lift the spirits of the football fans, Fulham star Iwobi posted a faith-filled message via his Snapchat story, writing:

“We’ll make [the] World Cup in the mighty name of Jesus.”

Shortly after, Nottingham Forest full-back Ola Aina also wrote something similar on his own social media page to assure the fans.

“We will make this WC.” the former Torino FC player wrote.

This comes as a morale boost for Nigerian football faithfuls, many of whom were left frustrated by the team’s late collapse against Zimbabwe.

Galatasaray forward, Victor Osimhen, had put the Super Eagles in front with a powerful header in the 74th minute, only for Tawanda Chirewa to equalise in the 90th minute for the visitors.

While pressure continues to mount on the squad ahead of the final qualifying games, Nigeria continue to chase a ticket to participate in the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
