“Nigeria need the points, they won’t get them” – Rwanda coach fires warning ahead of crucial clash

Rwanda assistant coach Eric Nshimiyimana has dismissed any pressure on his team ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria,  Soccernet.ng reports.

The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations champions are aiming to secure all points to steer hope for their World Cup ticket. But the coach has insisted that the Super Eagles will leave Kigali empty-handed.

Nigeria’s dismal start in the World Cup qualifying campaign has secured just three points for them in four games, putting them in fifth place in the group standings.

What Did Rwanda Coach Say Ahead Of Super Eagles Game?

Speaking ahead of the crucial encounter, Nshimiyimana stressed that Rwanda is in a better position in Group C and will not be fazed by Nigeria’s desperation for points.

“We’re not under any pressure because we already have our seven points. Nigeria are the ones under pressure because they need these points too, but they will not get them,” he declared, as quoted by Nigerian Journalist, Ojora Babatunde.

Super Eagles’ Struggles in World Cup Qualification

The Super Eagles have endured a disappointing qualification campaign, picking up just three points from their first four matches.

After draws against Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, followed by a loss to the Benin Republic, Nigeria now sits in a dangerous position in Group C.

With Rwanda already on seven points and playing at home, Nigeria faces a tough challenge to turn their campaign around. Anything short of a win in Kigali could severely dent their hopes of making it to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Super Eagles Eye Comeback Under Éric Chelle

New head coach Éric Chelle will take charge of the Super Eagles for the first time, tasked with securing Nigeria’s first win in the qualifiers.

The 2023 AFCON runners-up must overcome Rwanda’s confidence and prove they still have what it takes to qualify.

The match at Amahoro Stadium will be a defining moment for Nigeria, and all eyes will be on Chelle to break down a determined Rwandan side.

Can Nigeria Break Rwanda’s Resilience?

Rwanda’s recent 2-1 win over Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium has further boosted their morale, and playing at home gives them another advantage.

Meanwhile, Nigeria will be relying on their attacking firepower, including Victor Boniface, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Osimhen, to deliver a much-needed victory.
