Report: One-time FA Cup winner eye Zaidu Sanusi as EPL return grows stronger

English Championship side Leeds United have set their sights on Super Eagles left-back Zaidu Sanusi as they continue to bolster their squad for a potential return to the Premier League, Soccernet.ng reports.

Per reports from Africafoot, the Whites have entered preliminary discussions with Portuguese giants FC Porto over the possible acquisition of Sanusi in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old Nigerian defender has two years left on his contract with Porto but is reportedly open to leaving Porto in search of more regular playing time.

Leeds United, who won the FA Cup in 1972, are currently in the thick of the race for Premier League promotion and view Sanusi as a valuable reinforcement for next season’s campaign. The club is keen on adding experience to their backline, and Sanusi fits the bill perfectly.

A source from Gestifute, the agency representing Sanusi, confirmed to AfricaFoot that Leeds is preparing a €2 million bid to tempt Porto into selling the Nigerian international.

Sanusi, known for his defense ability, has featured prominently for FC Porto since joining from Santa Clara in 2020. He has also made over 22 appearances for the Nigerian national team, including a feature at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

If the move materializes, it would mark Sanusi’s first stint in English football, and he will be aiming to establish himself in the Premier League, should Leeds return to the EPL.
