Report: EPL clubs gain edge in race for Lookman as Atalanta favour overseas sale

English Premier League clubs have been handed a significant boost in the race to sign Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman, Soccernet.ng reports.

Reports circulating in the media space suggest that the 2024-25 Serie A league contenders, Atalanta BC, are more willing to sell the Nigeria international to an overseas club rather than league rivals.

Lookman has been one of Atalanta’s most influential players since joining from RB Leipzig in 2022. His performances, including a hat-trick in last season’s Europa League final, have put him on the radar of several top European clubs.

Soccernet.ng earlier reported that Juventus and Inter Milan have shown interest in signing the Nigerian international, but recent reports indicate that the Bergamo-based club would prefer to negotiate with clubs outside Italy.

Meanwhile, this gives Premier League teams a crucial advantage, with Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur among the sides monitoring the 26-year-old forward.

Lookman is no stranger to English football, having previously played for Everton, Leicester City, and Fulham. A return to the Premier League could be an attractive prospect, particularly as Atalanta’s preference for an overseas sale increases his chances of securing a move back to England.

However, the competition is not limited to England, as Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with a potential move for the Nigerian star.

The Super Eagles attacker found himself at the center of criticism following a missed penalty during Atalanta’s UEFA Champions League clash against Club Brugge. This has further sparked speculations over his exit from the club.
