“I’m proud” – Everything Eric Chelle said after leading Super Eagles to debut victory vs Rwanda

Head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Eric Sekhou Chelle, was delighted his side were able to seal a 2-0 win over Rwanda in Kigali yesterday evening, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 47-year-old Malian was appointed as the head coach of the three-time AFCON champions back in January, and was immediately tasked with leading Nigeria to the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a dreadful start to their qualifiers.

A brace from Victor Osimhen was enough to seal all three points for the Super Eagles against Rwanda and Chelle was delighted to have gotten a win on his debut as Nigeria’s head coach.

What Coach Chelle said

“It was a very difficult game because Rwanda has a great team and a good coach. We made a great game too. I’m so happy and proud for my players, for my guys and for the Nigerian people, the ex-Mali coach said in his post-match presser.

“We worked a lot within a week and two training sessions, but it was a lot of information between me and my players. We had a game plan and the players made it work. So, I think the victory, and the win, is normal,” Chelle concluded.

Up next for Chelle and the AFCON 2023 finalists is the home game against the Warriors of Zimbabwe on Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

While three points in Rwanda was a good way for the Super Eagles to put their World Cup dreams back on track, there is still a long way to go, as any slip ups might see their plans vanish into thin air.
