“We must be realistic”- World Cup champion sends message to Super Eagles ahead of Rwanda, Zimbabwe games

Former Nigeria Under-17 coach Emmanuel Amuneke is hopeful of a victory for the Super Eagles when they play Rwanda and Zimbabwe in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigeria are fifth in group c of the World Cup Qualifiers after picking three points from their first four games. The Super Eagles are in a precarious situation as they face a second consecutive absence at the Mundial except they can turn things around soon.

The Super Eagles are in a new regime, as coach Eric Chelle got the coaching job in January and is expected to lead Nigeria’s comeback.

The Super Eagles play Rwanda and Zimbabwe next week, and they will have their shot at sparking a resurgence.

Ahead of the games, former Nigeria Under-17 coach Amuneke, who won the World Cup in 2015 has sent his best wishes to the team.

“I hope we make it to the World Cup. I wish them the very best of luck and I hope in their upcoming games they are able to win their games,” Amuneke told Modo Victor.

“We must be realistic, its a very difficult task, but everything is possible in football. I hope they can be able to start winning against Rwanda.”

Amuneke is one of the names who has consistently linked with the Super Eagles coaching job, but the Nigeria Football Federation has snubbed him multiple times. He is now coach of Heartland.

Nigeria are the favouries to beat Rwanda and Zimbabwe due to their better squad quality. However, Nigeria have not shown that quality in recent years.

In fact, Rwanda defeated Nigeria when they visited last time out. So if Nigeria approaches the game with any level of complacency, their opponents could pounce.

Coach Chelle will be in charge of his first game for Nigeria, and he will hope to use it to make a statement.
