“He’s disappeared” – Former Super Eagles captain blasts Chelsea’s Jadon Sancho

Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, has blasted the Chelsea board for the recruitment process that led to the signature of Jadon Sancho and Noni Madueke, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 24-year-old Englishman joined the Blues after a fairly decent loan spell with 2024 UEFA Champions League finalists, Borussia Dortmund. Sancho joined Chelsea on a season-long loan with an option to buy included in the deal last summer.

The fee is worth £20m plus £5m in performance-related add-ons and would be triggered if Chelsea finishes within the top 14 of the English top-flight league at the end of the season.

However, the move hasn’t panned out positively for both parties. Chelsea are struggling in attack, while Sancho has scored just two goals and six assists in 23 games across all competitions for Enzo Maresca’s side.

Following Chelsea’s 3-0 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion, Sancho’s performance made Mikel livid, revealing the Manchester City Academy graduate is yet to justify his wages at Stamford Bridge.

“Jadon Sancho, he’s come on, and he’s deceived us with a couple of games. We thought, ‘Oh, f*****g hell, now we’re getting the Jadon Sancho from Dortmund, but he’s gone again. I don’t know what’s happened to Jadon. He’s disappeared.

“Off the grid. He takes the ball. He doesn’t go past people any more. He doesn’t create chances anymore. He doesn’t help the team as much as he should be. And [Noni] Madueke is now injured as well,” the 2012 UEFA Champions League winner said on the Obi One Podcast.
