Newly appointed Rangers boss, Barry Ferguson, has made a bold claim about Super Eagles striker, Cyriel Dessers, as a new era at Ibrox beckons, Soccernet.ng reports.
Ferguson played almost 300 league games across two stints for the Scottish Record Champions, and was called upon to replace the misfiring Philippe Clement, after Rangers lost to St. Mirren.
Dessers, who had a tough start to the season, was backed by Ferguson before he became a staff at the Rangers dugout.
“Listen, he’s scored two goals in two games, 22 goals last year and I don’t think you can get rid of him. I know Rangers still need in my eyes another number nine to come in for competition, but I like the big man’s attitude, sometimes he lacks that bit of quality, but if he had that quality he’d be playing somewhere else in a different league,” Ferguson said about Dessers in quotes revealed by Rangers Review.
Now, the Super Eagles striker has scored 18 goals and provided six assists in 40 games across all competitions for Rangers this season.
“They are playing with Glasgow Rangers, it is a privilege walking into this training centre. Training will be tough, there’s no doubt, but it’ll be enjoyable as well.
“It is serious when it comes to the 90 minutes, it is all about winning at Rangers. That is how I was brought up and that is the way I want my players to be.
“You have to win every game with the demands and the expectation put on you here. When people come to watch, they expect you to win games, and I don’t think we have won enough this year,” the 47-year-old concluded.
Rangers are 16 points below Celtic on the SPFL table, although they have a game in hand.
