Osayi-Samuel: Why Super Eagles star might leave Fenerbahçe for free this summer

Bright Osayi-Samuel’s future at Fenerbahçe remains uncertain as the Super Eagles defender approaches the final months of his contract, Soccernet.ng reports.

This has raised concerns that the former Queens Park Rangers wing-back could leave the Turkish giants and make a return for free this summer.

The Super Eagles star’s current deal expires in June 2025, but with no official updates on a contract renewal, speculation continues to mount over his potential departure.

In fact, earlier reports suggest that the Nigeria international was offered to Fulham FC before the end of the January transfer window but fell through with the deal. A move to Fulham could have linked him with his Super Eagles teammates, Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey.

Meanwhile, if Fenerbahçe fails to extend his stay, Osayi-Samuel will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with other clubs before the summer window opens.

This decision could put the club at risk of losing him without financial compensation for a player they bought for a fee in the region of €508,000 to a player who is now valued at around €9 million.

Despite rumours suggesting that the full-back is being sidelined due to stalled contract talks, reports from Turkey have dismissed such claims.

Meanwhile, Fenerbahçe has bolstered its squad during the winter transfer window with high-profile signings, including attacking midfielder Anderson Talisca, defenders Milan Škriniar and Diego Carlos, as well as right-back Ognjen Mimović, who is set to be loaned out.

These reinforcements of Mimovic in the squad could further influence Osayi-Samuel’s role in the squad moving forward.

With the summer transfer window fast approaching, the club must make a decisive move regarding Osayi-Samuel’s future. If no agreement is reached soon, Fenerbahçe risks losing one of its key defensive assets without financial gain.
