“Ahmed Musa has a role to play” – Former Super Eagles star urges recall for ex-Leicester City forward

Former Julius Berger midfielder Edema Fuludu has called for the return of former Leicester City forward Ahmed Musa to the Super Eagles squad, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles captain last earned a minute for the squad during their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations preparation clash against Guinea.

Following this, the Kano Pillars player has not found his way to the squad since the conclusion of the 2023 AFCON tournament.

However, Nigeria are scheduled to tackle Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March for their must-win 2026 World Cup qualification clashes to revive their hope for a ticket.

Meanwhile, the eight-capped former Nigeria international has called for his return, insisting that the experienced forward could be crucial in Nigeria’s World Cup qualification campaign.

“The Super Eagles are in dire need of results to put our World Cup campaign back on track, and I feel someone like Ahmed Musa has a crucial role to play,” Fuludu told Guardian Nigeria. “Many Nigerians are superstars when it comes to football, and I always feel sad when some people jump to conclusions that players are too old to play for the national team.”

The former Altay midfielder further argued that Musa’s presence in the Nigeria Premier Football League with Kano Pillars proves he still has something to offer.

“If Ahmed Musa can come back to play in the Nigerian league and stabilise Kano Pillars on the table, there is nothing wrong in including him in the Super Eagles squad for the World Cup qualifiers,” he added. “We have seen situations where older players became saviours for many teams in tight situations. We all know Ahmed Musa as one of the most dedicated players to play for the national team. After all, he has not officially announced his retirement from international football. I feel he still has a role to play in the Super Eagles if the coach wants him.”

New Super Eagles boss Eric Chelle is currently assessing his best team setup ahead of the upcoming clash. According to reports, he will be scouting some home-based players, and Musa could be among those considered.
