Super Eagles forward Moses Simon has started the process of becoming a French citizen after six years at Ligue 1 club Nantes, Soccernet.ng reports.

Simon joined Nantes from Spanish LaLiga club Levante in 2020 permanently. However, before that deal, he had a one-year loan stint at the club.

Since joining Nantes, the 29-year-old Super Eagles star has been impressive, producing 35 goals and 39 assists in 190 appearances for the Yellow Canaries.

This season, he has been their major outlet, contributing six goals and seven assists in 21 games. In fact, Simon has been involved in almost half of their goals in Ligue 1, as Nantes have scored 28 goals after in the French top-flight this season.

Aside from his impressive performances for Nantes, Simon has also been winning off the pitch. The Super Eagles star recently welcomed a third child with his wife.

Now, in a recent report by Tribune Nantaise, Simon has started the process of applying for his French citizenship. According to French law, he is eligible to apply for citizenship after spending five years in the country.

Will Moses Simon stop playing for Nigeria if he becomes a French citizen?

Moses Simon has 72 appearances for Nigeria, and becoming a French citizen will not change anything for him.

According to FIFA rules, he will not be allowed to play for another country since he already has caps for Nigeria.

So, even if Simon becomes a French citizen, he is only eligible to play for Nigeria. He is currently one of the best Super Eagles wingers and coach Eric Chelle will look to use him to devastating effect.
