New Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle continues to show his commitment to Mouloudia Club d’Oran (MC Oran) despite officially parting ways with the Algerian side earlier this month, Soccernet.ng reports.
Chelle, who took over as MC Oran’s manager in October after leaving his role with Mali’s national team, left the club by mutual consent to assume his new position with Nigeria’s senior national team.
During his brief but impactful tenure at MC Oran, Chelle earned respect for his methodical approach and forward-thinking ideas.
According to Fennec Football, the former Mali boss has now been consulted by MC Oran officials to recommend a suitable replacement as they search for stability during a turbulent period.
Chelle is believed to have suggested Amir Abdou, the former head coach of Mauritania and Comoros, as a fitting successor.
Abdou spent eight years in charge of Comoros and made history by guiding them to their first-ever Nations Cup finals in Cameroon in 2021.
The reports suggest that Chelle sees Abdou as a methodical technician capable of continuing the foundation he laid at the club.
With a similar coaching philosophy, Abdou is considered an excellent candidate to help restore stability and guide MC Oran into the return phase of the championship.
A decision on MC Oran’s next coach is expected imminently, with Mourad Meziane, the club’s sporting director, and senior officials from Hyproc, the team’s main sponsor, tasked with finalizing the appointment. The timing is critical, with the team seeking momentum to rebuild after a challenging start to the season.
Meanwhile, Chelle faces significant challenges in his new role as Nigeria’s head coach.
Despite the squad brimming with elite talent, the Super Eagles have struggled during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, trailing group rivals Rwanda, South Africa, Benin, and Lesotho.
Chelle’s mandate is clear: restore Nigeria’s dominance on the continent and ensure World Cup qualification.
The World Cup qualifiers resume in March with Nigeria set to face both Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
