Sevilla coach Garcia Pimienta has revealed that Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has been out of action for the past two weeks due to an injury, Soccernet.ng reports.
Iheanacho has been the subject of transfer speculations in recent weeks, following his lack of game time at Sevilla. Recall that the 28-year-old attacker just joined Los Nervioneses last summer in a free transfer, and was expected to add some bite to their attack. But his game time has been limited due to his inability to produce goals.
Iheanacho has been missing from training for the past two weeks, and that sparked speculations that Sevilla were looking to force him out of the club this month.
Soccernet.ng even reported that Premier League clubs Ipswich Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers wanted to sign him.
However, coach Pimienta has spoken about the issue. Ahead of Sevilla’s next game against Valencia, he has revealed that Iheanachohas only been struggling with an injury
“Kelechi (Iheanacho) has some discomfort, the same as last week. He should be back with the group soon,” Pimienta told journalists.
Nonetheless, this does not put an end to the talks of a possible exit. Iheanacho could still push for a return to the Premier League to get his career back on track. With three weeks left before the transfer window closes, a lot could still happen.
