Some Saudi Arabian clubs are interested in signing Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen this January, Soccernet.ng reports.
Boniface has been impressive for Bayer Leverkusen since he joined from Royale Union two years ago. The Super Eagles striker has registered 29 goals and eleven assist in 49 appearances for Die Werkself.
He was instrumental in their Bundesliga and German Cup wins last season, and he played an integral role for them in the first half of the campaign until he got injured.
Boniface has attracted some clubs in Europe’s top five leagues, with West Ham previously in the mix. However, those talks have failed to materialize as they have failed to put a decent offer on the table.
Now, in a new development per Werkself Xtra, Boniface has attracted clubs from teams in the Saudi Arabian Pro League. They are even confident that a decision could be reached before the end of the winter transfer window.
Should Victor Boniface prioritize a move to Saudi Arabia?
Saudi Arabia have grown to global prominence in the last three years due to their policy of splashing big money on players in mainstream Europe.
In Boniface’s case, they would have to spend big to land the Super Eagles star. Bayer Leverkusen would only listen to bids in the region of €50 million (₦80.3 billion), and that is a fee that the top Saudi Arabian clubs can afford.
They would also multiply his salary, and that is a big attraction for any player, especially one who did not come from a rich background.
Boniface currently earns €3 million annually, but that would increase exponentially if he decides to join move to the Saudi Arabian league.
Premier League clubs are also interested in Boniface, but they won’t be willing to match whatever the Saudi clubs would bring to the table.
If Boniface decides to move to Saudi Arabia, he would not get the publicity he gets in mainstream Europe. And that could even affect his place in the Super Eagles squad. However, if he decides to remain in Germany or move to another side in Europe, he will remain in the limelight.
Boniface will have a big decision to make in the coming weeks. Whether to chase the bag or fight to make a big name in Europe.
