Official: Sadiq Umar becomes second Nigerian to sign for Valencia

Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar has completed a six-month loan transfer from Real Sociedad to fellow Spanish La Liga side Valencia, Soccernet.ng reports.

Sadiq has endured a tough start to life at Real Sociedad. He was expected to do big things when he was signed from Almeria for €20 million in September 2022.

But unfortunately for him, he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in just his third game for the club. That effectively ruled him out of action for the entire season.

The Super Eagles star returned to action for Txuri-urdin last season, but he failed to pin down a regular starting shirt.

This season, Sadiq’s situation has not improved, as he has only gotten eleven appearances this season, most of which have been from the bench.

Due to his lack of game time, there have been speculations that the Nigerian could leave San Sebastian. Soccernet.ng reported earlier that Getafe, and Valencia were interested in acquiring his services.

In a new development, Valencia have now announced that they have completed the signing of Sadiq in a six month loan. The club also have an option to buy him permanently at the end of the loan. He was unveiled at the club on Saturday.

Following the move, Sadiq has become the second Nigerian player to sign for Valencia after Sunny in 2007. The club currently sit 19th in La Liga with 12 points after 19 games.
