Devastating: Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali loses mum, weeks after father’s death

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has taken to social media to announce the death of his mother, just weeks after his father died, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nwabali rose to global recognition during the Africa Cup of Nations last year, when he displaced Maduka Okoye to become the first-choice goalkeeper for Nigeria.

He featured in all the games, keeping five clean sheets in the course of the competition. He has since gone on to register 13 appearances for the Super Eagles.

Unfortunately for him, the past two months have been terrible. In November, during the last international break, he lost his dad. It was during Nigeria’s 2025 AFCON Qualifiers against Rwanda and Benin. He played the first game against Benin, but he was granted permission to leave camp afterwards.

Now, in a new development, the Chippa United star has taken to social media to mourn the death of his mother.

As of press time, the cause of Nwabali’s mum’s death has not been revealed. But it is a big blow for him, especially due to the short space between his mum and his father’s death.

Chippa United will be hoping that their star man can return to action as soon as possible despite his loss.
