“It’s good news” – Ex-Man United man provides injury update on Dele-Bashiru ahead of Sheffield United visit

Watford manager Tom Cleverley has provided a positive injury update regarding former Nigerian youth international Tom Dele-Bashiru, Soccernet.ng reports

Dele-Bashiru has been out of action since October when he sustained a knee injury during Watford’s 3-0 defeat at Luton Town in a gameweek 10 clash of the Championship at Kenilworth Road.

Before that setback, Dele-Bashiru had enjoyed a bright start to the 2024/25 season, with the 25-year-old midfielder netting two goals in nine league appearances.

In Dele-Bashiru’s absence, Cleverley’s Watford have kept their playoff hopes alive by winning six of their last 13 league games, losing only four and securing draws in the other three.

However, the Hornets need a bit of inspiration from anywhere at the moment after losing their last two Championship matches against Cardiff and Queens Park Rangers.

That could come from some of the club’s players who have missed recent matches and Cleverley was pleased to reveal the duo of Imrân Louza and Angelo Ogbonna would be available for Watford’s clash with Sheffield United on Saturday night.

That match at the Vicarage Road, however, comes too early for Dele-Bashiru who has overcome the worst period of his rehabilitation.

Cleverley, at his pre-match press conference, confirmed that the former Flying Eagles midfielder has returned to training following his knee injury.

“Tom has re-joined the group so we’re getting stronger in that [central midfield] position,” the former Manchester United midfielder said.

“So it’s good news on that front.”

Tom Dele-Bashiru, who came through the ranks at Manchester City alongside his young brother and Super Eagles star Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, has been at Watford since 2019.
