Akor Adams set to join Sevilla: One thing is certain

Nigerian striker, Akor Adams, has been heavily linked with a move to join Sevilla FC following his recent struggles in Ligue 1, Soccernet.ng reports.

For many, the Montpellier forward is tipped to replace his countryman, Kelechi Iheanacho, who has also been heavily linked with a move away from the club less than a year after penning a deal with them.

Meanwhile, the seven-time Europa League champions are looking to tackle their goal-scoring woes, which Iheanacho and Isaac Romero have failed to resolve this season.

What Will Akor Adams Offer Sevilla?

Reports circulating in the media reveal that the Nigerian is scheduled to arrive in Spain to finalise his deal with Sevilla. Meanwhile, sources close to the situation told Soccernet.ng that the 24-year-old is slated to have a medical tomorrow.

Adams joined Montpellier in the 2023 summer transfer window, and in that season, he notched double-digit goals for the club.

He scored 10 goals and provided two assists in 33 matches. However, his performance dipped the following season, with three goals and three assists in 16 appearances, which is already on par with his assist tally from the previous season.

For Sogndal, Adams scored 16 goals in 56 appearances, 28 goals for Lillestrøm in 50 games, and 13 goals in 49 games for Montpellier thus far. This shows that the Nigerian is a threat to defenders when he has the right support from his teammates on the pitch.

Akor Adams: One Thing is For Sure

Despite Adams’ dip in performance for the French club, if a deal materialises with Sevilla, he is tipped as a potential solution to end the La Liga side’s goal-scoring troubles.

On the other hand, the Nigerian talent would likely bench Isaac Romero, who has only found the back of the net three times in 18 games for the club. However, Iheanacho’s case seems different, as he has scored three times in just 11 games.

The Super Eagles attacker might be on his way out of the club temporarily or permanently if Adams joins Sevilla. But if he stays, this could be a tough time for him, as he would have to fight for a starting spot to lead Sevilla’s attack.
