Watch: President Macron gifts Tinubu Kylian Mbappe’s France jersey number

French President Emmanuel Macron has presented Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with Kylian Mbappé’s iconic France jersey number during his state visit, Soccernet.ng reports.

During a recent meeting between the two leaders, Macron handed over the number 10 jersey, worn by the Real Madrid superstar, as a symbol of the strong diplomatic relationship between their countries.

The gift is particularly significant given the growing admiration for Mbappé both in France and internationally, including in Nigeria, where there is a high passion for football.

In a video shared on social media, President Macron was spotted showing the jersey with the number 10 jersey which was followed by a sense of delight by the Nigerian president.

“Number 10 like [Kylian] Mbappé. And this is number 10,” said Macron with a grin.

Macron expressed joy at welcoming President Tinubu to France, reflecting on their long-standing partnership. He also reminisced about his early days, sharing how he had interned at the Nigerian Embassy during his youth.

“It’s a great honour for France, dear President Bola Tinubu (@officialABAT), to welcome you for this state visit as a major partner and friend of today and tomorrow.

“It still makes me very happy to remember that I was once a young intern at the French Embassy in Nigeria back then.” he said in Pidgin English.

The number 10 jersey is often regarded as one of the most prestigious in football, representing leadership and skill, making this gesture even more significant in Nigeria’s admiration for Mbappé’s talents.
