Super Eagles defender eyes CHAN spot with home-based players

Victor Collins previously played for Remo Stars in the Nigeria Professional Football League, featuring in the Naija Super 8 final.

Super Eagles and Nasarawa United versatile defender, Victor Collins, has sent out a word of warning to Nigeria’s opponents, claiming the team will do all it takes to participate in the CHAN tournament next year, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 24-year-old, who’s famous for his ability to play out from the back under pressure, got his first call-up to the Super Eagles last month, but didn’t feature for Augustine Eguavoen’s side as they sealed a spot in the AFCON 2025 tournament.

As the home-based players intensify preparations ahead of their crucial 2025 African Nations Championship qualifier against Ghana, Collins revealed the team are hungry exert vengeance against their opponents after their previous encounters. The Black stars edged Nigeria to qualification during the 2009 edition of the tournament.

“The most important thing we’re focusing on is the qualification of the team because it is very important.

Since 2018, we’ve missed two editions of the tournament, and we don’t want to be in that situation again. We just want to qualify,” the former Remo Stars told Brila.

The first leg of the qualifiers will be played on Sunday, December 22nd, at the Accra Sports Stadium, while the return leg will be played six days later at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

The TotalEnergies Africa Nations Championship will be played between 01- 28 February 2025. The tournament will be hosted by a trio of African countries in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
