Anthony Nwakaeme was on target for Trabzonspor as the Black Sea Storms were forced to a thrilling 2-2 draw by Kasimpasa in the Turkish Super Lig on Friday night, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Nigerian forward got on the scoresheet in the 81st minute to give Trabzonspor a 2-1 lead after Portugal’s Carlos ‘Cafu’ Dias and Simon Banza had exchanged goals either side of halftime.
However, Nwakaeme was denied the chance to claim all three points for the home team as Nuno da Costa struck in stoppage time to secure a share of the spoils for the visitors.
Still, Nwakaeme would be pleased with his first league goal for Trabzonspor since his return to the club in the summer.
Nwakaeme’s strike against Kasimpasa is his first goal in 929 days for Trabzonspor with his previous one coming in a 3-1 defeat to Istanbul Basaksehir on May 22, 2022.
That result was one of only three losses Trabzonspor suffered that season as Nwakaeme guided the club to a memorable league title.
However, the former Hapoel Be’er Sheva attacker left Trabzon at the end of the 2021/2022 season after failing to secure a new contract with the champions.
Interestingly, after two years in Saudi Arabia with Al Fayha, where he scored 13 league goals in 45 games, Nwakaeme returned to Trabzonspor in June on a free transfer.
The 35-year-old forward has battled with a recurring muscle injury since his return and has struggled to rediscover his best form.
Trabzonspor will hope the good days are back for Nwakaeme as the club needs inspiration following a sluggish start to the campaign.
Şenol Güneş’s men have only won three of their first 14 league games and sit in 12th position with 16 points, four points above the relegation zone.
