Xabi Alonso threatens to punish Boniface for reckless driving and phone use on highway

Victor Boniface is currently unavailable for Bayer 04 Leverkusen due to a thigh injury he picked up during International duty with Nigeria.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen head coach, Xabi Alonso, has revealed he’ll take proper action on Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface, after the forward was caught recklessly driving in Germany, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 23-year-old has continued his decent form from last season, scoring eight goals in fifteen games this campaign, before picking up a thigh injury with the Nigerian Football team during the just-concluded International break.

Six weeks ago, the former Union Saint-Gilloise striker survived a car crash in Germany after helping Die Werkself to victory against Eintracht Frankfurt, and has come into the spotlight for another driving incident.

The 1.91m tall footballer was seen using his phone while driving his Mercedes-AMG car. The video popped up on Instagram, but has now been taken down.

As per German outlet, BILD, Boniface was driving at 140km/h whilst using his phone, and he appeared to be reading comments on Instagram about Bayer Leverkusen’s starting line-up post before their Champions League match against Salzburg. The speed limit of the particular route he was passing was 120km/h.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen have released an official statement, revealing they’d look into the situation in a bid to properly address the act by the Nigerian.

Xabi Alonso also confirmed that he will hold talks with Boniface for such a reckless act as soon as possible.

“I don’t like it, it’s obviously not good, and of course, it’s not allowed to happen. I haven’t seen Boni, but he knows it’s not allowed. We have to tell him he’s not allowed to do something like this,” the former Liverpool midfielder said in his pre-match conference, as revealed by BeIN Sports Philippines.

Leverkusen are currently fourth on the Bundesliga table, nine points behind league leaders, Bayern Munich.
