‘What’s luv’ crooner Alex Iwobi reveals his music career doesn’t clash with life as a footballer

Alex Iwobi refused to celebrate after scoring a brilliant goal against Everton out of respect for his former team.

Super Eagles and Fulham attacking midfielder, Alex Chuka Iwobi, has stated why he chose to start a music career, revealing it doesn’t clash with his life as a footballer, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 28-year-old burst onto the scene as a youngster with Arsenal in the last decade, and has now grown into a refined and experienced Premier League midfielder.

However, outside his exploits on the pitch, Iwobi, is a musician. The former Everton man collaborated with his former Arsenal team-mate, Chuba Akpom (performing as Skoli) and former England youth international Medy Elito (Don-EE) for his first release titled ‘Don’t shoot’ back in June, with the song grossing almost 60,000 streams on Spotify. He’s now followed up with another release with a new song titled ‘What’s Luv?’.

Iwobi’s claimed his song was aimed at deterring youngsters from street violence back in June, and now, his latest release as a celebration of his African roots, but he maintains total focus on his life on the pitch.

“Growing up in an area of London that is challenging for some people, I know how hard it can be and I’m grateful to have a platform to try and make a difference.

I hope that my music is another way of proving that young people do not have to feel they have to fit in just one box. I want them to be encouraged to achieve their dreams, to put their focus into positive things.

Creating music doesn’t take anything away from my football, it helps me switch off. I will always work hard and try to improve in my sport, but this is a good use of my spare time,” the former Arsenal man said in an interview with BBC Sports.

Iwobi has scored two league goals this season and will be hoping to continue his decent form when Fulham welcome Brentford to the Craven Cottage on Monday night.
