Rwanda Coach Spittler rallies team for must-win battle against Nigeria

Rwanda’s head coach, Torsten Spittler, has expressed determination as his team faces the daunting task of defeating Nigeria to secure their place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Soccernet.ng reports.

Although Nigeria has already secured their ticket to Morocco as Group D winners, this clash is expected to be an intense encounter as Rwanda fights for their hopes of qualification.

Speaking ahead of the crucial tie at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, the coach stressed the importance of teamwork and resilience against the Super Eagles.

“It’s clear that if we must go to AFCON 2025, we’ll have to win here (against the Super Eagles). So, that’s our mission here,” the coach stated.

He further acknowledged Nigeria’s strength, “We’re expecting an interesting match against Nigeria, and we’ll have to fight until the last minute. We don’t know how seriously Nigeria will take the match now that they are already through, but I don’t think they’ll make it easy for us. It will be a very interesting game.”

The coach also emphasised the strategic challenges posed by Nigeria’s potent attack: “Competing against your strikers in a one-on-one situation is nearly impossible. So, we have to organise ourselves and ensure that we always have two or three players against these guys. Otherwise, it will be very difficult,” he said.

With Rwanda needing nothing less than victory to keep their AFCON hopes alive, the Amavubi will rely on collective discipline and tactical organisation to upset the already-qualified Super Eagles.
