My music is not a backup plan – Fulham’s Alex Iwobi dismisses claims

Alex Iwobi is currently the Super Eagles player with the most appearances in the squad set to face Rwanda on Monday

Fulham and Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi has firmly shut down suggestions that his musical pursuits are a backup plan for life after football, Soccernet.ng reports.

The former Arsenal forward insisted that he is just living life while making his music and not overthinking his future.

In an exclusive interview with Making of Champions, Iwobi addressed the growing speculation about his dual career, stating that while he enjoys making music, it is not a diversion from his football career.

“No, I am just living life. I don’t know if I am preparing for life after football, I am just living my life. So, people can say what they want,” Iwobi said.

Iwobi, who has been making waves in the music industry with tracks like “Don’t Shoot” and his latest release, “What’s Luv?”, stressed that his focus remains firmly on football.

The 28-year-old attacking midfielder explained that his music allows him to unwind and switch off from the rigours of professional football, but it does not detract from his commitment to the game.

“Creating music doesn’t take anything away from my football. It helps me switch off. I will always work hard and try to improve in my sport, but this is a good use of my spare time,” Iwobi shared in an earlier interview with BBC Sports.

Iwobi’s debut track “Don’t Shoot” with fellow footballers Chuba Akpom and Medy Elito was well received, garnering nearly 60,000 streams on Spotify, and his latest song, “What’s Luv?”, celebrates Afro-Swing and Rap with his close friends and rising artists.
