Super Eagles striker striker Cyriel Dessers has told his critics that he wouldn’t be at Rangers if he could convert all his goalscoring opportunities, Soccernet.ng reports.
Dessers has been one of the most maligned players at Rangers since his transfer from Genk last year. The Nigerian striker has put up decent numbers, producing 23 goals and nine assists in 54 appearances.
This season, he has registered nine goals and three assists in 19 appearances. However, the 29-year-old striker has been often criticized for his penchant for missing chances. There have even been calls for the club to sign a new striker due to Dessers’ struggles.
On Thursday, the Nigerian scored the vital goal that helped Rangers secure a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Olympiacos. And after the game, Dessers was queried about the criticism that he has gotten. The former Feyenoord star acted indifferently, but he wants his critics to know that missing chances is a normal thing for all strikers.
“I was watching the Champions League this week and I see unbelievable strikers miss chances. So who am I as Cyriel Dessers not to miss chances?,” Dessers said, per Rangers Review.
“Obviously, you’re going to miss more than you score, that’s the life of a striker. You know that there will always be a perception about that.
“If I could score three chances every game, I would probably not be at Rangers.”
Dessers will be looking to continue scoring goals and help Rangers claim some silverware at the end if the season.
