“I cannot wait” – Maduka Okoye pumped to impress between the sticks against Rwanda following Nwabali’s absence

Maduka Okoye hasn't featured for Nigeria since committing a howler in the AFCON 2021 Round-of-16 clash against Tunisia.

Super Eagles and Udinese goalkeeper, Maduka Emilio Okoye, has revealed his ecstasy ahead of Nigeria’s game against Rwanda this evening as he’s primed to start in goal, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 25-year-old has been Udinese’s first-choice goalkeeper since last season, but his last game for the Super Eagles was against Tunisia after he committed an error that cost Nigeria a place in the quarter final of the AFCON 2021 tournament.

Stanley Nwabali has become the Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper in that time, but with his withdrawal from Nigeria’s camp ahead of the game against Rwanda, Okoye is excited about the chances of donning the green and white colours of Nigeria again.

“It’s great, again a big achievement. Afcon is always great for us and for the whole country, so we are happy. This is the moment I have been waiting for. I have been attending camp for a long time now, and finally, I have the chance to play again.

I’m thankful and I cannot wait to put on the jersey again and play in front of the Nigerian fans at home in Nigeria. We can do the same thing again. We can reach the final again for sure. This is what we want, this is why we are going to the Afcon.

We want to win the Afcon now and I’m pretty sure that we have the possibility to do that,” the former Watford goalkeeper said in an interview with Victor Modo.

Nigeria’s game against Rwanda will be played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. Kick-off time is slated for 5:00 PM WAT.
