Former German Bundesliga champions Stuttgart are eyeing a January transfer for Nigerian striker Gift Orban, Soccernet.ng reports.
Orban has had a torrid time at Lyon since his €14 million transfer from Belgian club KAA Gent in January. Recall that the Nigerian striker had impressed during his one-year stint in Belgium, registering 32 goals and two assists in 52 appearances. So he was bought to help Lyon avoid relegation last season.
This season, his game time has been limited badly. Orban has made only five appearances this season, with two goals to his name. In fact, he has only made Lyon’s matchday squad five times this season.
Due to his struggles, there have been talks that Orban will leave Lyon in January, as the club are also looking to make some money to balance their books.
According to Transfer News Live, 2006 Bundesliga champions Stuttgart are considering a move for the former Super Eagles invitee.
Recall that Stuttgart sold Serhou Guirassy to Borussia Dortmund last summer, and that has had a negative impact on them, as they have struggled to score goals this season.
Orban could help them solve that problem, as he is a good finisher and has impressive positioning. However, the price could just be the issue. Lyon could demand up to €20 million for the Nigerian striker.
