Chukwueze returns to Santiago Bernabéu: Can AC Milan’s Nigerian star repeat Villarreal brilliance vs Real Madrid?

AC Milan will look to Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze for inspiration on Tuesday as they take on Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu, hoping he can recapture the magic from his last visit to the iconic stadium, Soccernet.ng reports.

In one of the best performances of his career, Chukwueze delivered a memorable display for Villarreal on April 8, 2023, scoring twice in a thrilling 3-2 comeback win over Madrid.

Now in Milan colors, he will be keen to replicate that form in the Champions League.

Reflecting on his own performance at the Bernabéu, Chukwueze called it a ‘crazy’ night, where his dribbling, speed, and two brilliant goals left a lasting impression.

In that game, Chukwueze had Real Madrid’s Nacho scrambling, with his quick moves and audacious plays sparking talks about a possible future with the Spanish giants.

Chukwueze’s heroics that night saw his stock soar across Europe, eventually leading to a €20 million move to AC Milan.

That evening saw Real Madrid, who were trailing Barcelona in the league race, take an early lead through an Asensio-inspired own goal by Pau Torres.

But the stage was set for Chukwueze to shine. In the 30th minute, he expertly navigated through Madrid’s defence, leaving Nacho behind and slotting the ball past Courtois to equalise.

Though Vinícius quickly restored Madrid’s lead, Chukwueze was relentless. Another blazing run down the wing and a deflected pass eventually led to Morales leveling the match again.

But Chukwueze saved his best for last, delivering a stunning finish that echoed Arjen Robben’s iconic style.

Recovering possession near the edge of the area, he curled a left-footed shot into the top corner, silencing the home crowd.

That breathtaking moment underlined his potential as a top talent, even if his transfer to Milan has presented its own challenges.

Since joining Milan, Chukwueze has had a mixed start. In Serie A this season, he has made ten appearances, mostly as a substitute, scoring only one goal.

However, recent starting opportunities under manager Paulo Fonseca suggest he may be finding his rhythm.

The Nigerian international notably scored the winning goal in a pre-season match against Real Madrid during Milan’s U.S. tour this summer, a reminder of his capabilities.

With Milan eager to strengthen their Champions League campaign, all eyes will be on Chukwueze to see if he can repeat his 2023 Bernabéu heroics and reignite his form on one of the world’s biggest stages.
