Too much or too small? NFF budgets N17.6 billion for 2025

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has approved a massive N17.6 billion budget for 2025 following its Annual General Assembly in Asaba, Delta State, Soccernet.ng reports.

This budget, aimed at strengthening Nigerian football across all levels, was approved on Thursday with the Congress endorsing the Federation’s financial plans.

In addition to the 2025 budget, the Nigerian football body also ratified its financial statements for the year ending 2023 with its commitment to transparency.

NFF officials have expressed optimism that the funds will help achieve critical milestones, including securing the Super Eagles’ qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The NFF Congress emphasized the importance of investing in the development of football in Nigeria while praising the achievements of the national teams.

“The Congress also approved the NFF’s 2025 budget proposal amounting to the sum of N17.6 billion.

“The Congress emphasized the need for the NFF Executive committee to prioritize grassroots football and talent discovery nationwide, in alignment with FIFA’s vision for global football growth. It committed to backing initiatives that promote infrastructural development, refereeing capacity enhancement (especially for the young talents) and coaching courses” reads the communique.

The Super Eagles were commended for their silver-medal finish at the 2023 AFCON, and the Super Falcons for their participation in the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament after a 16-year absence.

But with N17.6 billion now allocated for the coming year, the big question is: Is this budget too much or too small?
