“Our best and surest route to the finals” – Eguavoen reveals Super Eagles’ strategy for Morocco 2025 qualification

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are slated to tackle the Mediterranean knights of Libya at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Friday

Interim coach of the Super Eagles Augustine Eguavoen has laid out Nigeria’s strategy for securing a spot in 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, Soccernet.ng reports.

The former Nigeria international emphasised the importance of securing maximum points from their upcoming double-header against Libya’s Mediterranean Knights.

Speaking ahead of Friday’s clash at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Eguavoen revealed that earning six points from both encounters is Nigeria’s clearest path to qualification, minimising the pressure as the race to Morocco heats up.

“Our best and surest route to the finals will be to pick up the six points in the matches with Libya and be somewhat guaranteed of a place in Morocco even before Matchday 5. We don’t want to be in any anxiety in the run-in during this qualifying campaign,” the coach explained to nff.com.

With the return fixture set for Tuesday at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium near Benghazi, Eguavoen is determined to avoid any last-minute qualification struggles as he aims to seal the Super Eagles’ spot well before the final rounds of matches.

Although the team will be without star striker Victor Osimhen, Eguavoen remains confident in his squad’s ability to deliver results:

He added: “I admit we will miss Victor, but I believe in the other strikers available to get us the goals that will give us the three points in Uyo, and the three points in Libya.”

Nigeria is determined to secure their AFCON spot as the Group D battle intensifies. Eguavoen’s strategy is clear: winning both games will guarantee their path to Morocco 2025.
