Nigeria & Atalanta star Lookman joins Milan, Napoli stars in stats-backed Serie A Team of the Month

Nigeria international Ademola Lookman has been named in WhoScored’s Serie A Team of the Month for September, following his standout performances for Atalanta, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 26-year-old winger was instrumental for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, scoring two goals and registering one assist in just three league appearances.

His contributions have earned him recognition among the league’s top performers for the month.

Lookman played a key role in Atalanta’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Fiorentina at home, where he not only scored but also provided a crucial assist.

The former Everton and Leicester City star then came off the bench to net a late penalty in Atalanta’s disappointing 3-2 home defeat to newly promoted Como.

His ability to influence games in tight situations has made him a vital asset to Atalanta.

Lookman, the only Atalanta player to feature in the Serie A Team of the Month, earned a rating of 7.68.

Only three players on the Best XI squad – AC Milan’s duo Theo Hernandes (7.93), Rafael Leao (7.87) and Bologna’s Santiago Castro (7.77) – got a higher rating than Lookman.

Other Milan stars in the TotM are goalkeeper Mike Maignan, midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, and forward Christian Pulisic.

Napoli defenders Di Lorenzo and Buorngiono as well as Como’s Paz, and Empoli’s Ismajli also made the list.

Earlier in September, Lookman also impressed for the Super Eagles, netting a brace in Nigeria’s 3-0 win over Benin Republic during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

As Atalanta prepare to face Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League, Lookman will be looking to extend his excellent form.
