Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has been named Atalanta’s Player of the Month for September, following a string of impressive performances for the Italian side, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 26-year-old winger, who has become a fan favourite at the club, registered two goals and one assist during the month, playing a pivotal role in Atalanta’s strong start to the season.
Atalanta confirmed the award on their official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday. Lookman’s contribution was decisive in several matches, including a thrilling 3-2 victory over Fiorentina, where he provided an assist for the equaliser and also scored the match-winning goal. His stellar display earned him the MVP award for that match.
Lookman also found the back of the net in Atalanta’s 3-2 loss to Como, converting a penalty to reduce the deficit. His consistent form throughout the month has also extended to the UEFA Champions League, where he has contributed a goal and an assist in two appearances.
Atalanta’s fans, who voted Lookman as their Player of the Month via the club’s official app, were impressed by his dribbling, creativity, and finishing.
Lookman’s direct competitor for the award, Serbian midfielder Lazar Samardžić, placed second, while the outgoing champion Mateo Retegui settled for third.
In international duty, Lookman had two goals controversially cancelled in Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Libya in the first leg of the AFCON qualifiers.
Despite the setback, he is determined to continue his impressive form in the second leg on Tuesday as the Super Eagles aim to secure a place in AFCON 2025.
