“I’ll always be indebted to her” – CAF Player of the Year award front runner speaks on relationship with his mother

Super Eagles and Atalanta forward, Ademola Olajade Lookman, has revealed the role his mother played in making sure he grew into the footballer he is today, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 26-year-old reached great heights for club and country last season, leading the Super Eagles to the AFCON 2023 final alongside lifting the UEFA Europa League with Atalanta.

After scoring a hat-trick in the final, the former RB Leipzig man celebrated the special moment with his mother and his childhood coach. In a recent interview with L’equipe, Lookman revealed the sacrifices his “Superwoman” played in getting him to the top.

“I lived with my mom and my sister. Growing up with them allowed me to understand women. My dad and my other sister were in Nigeria, in Lagos.

My mother did everything to not let it affect me. I was the only boy, my family showed me a lot of love, always supported and protected. As a child, if you don’t have a father around or a mother, it’s complicated. My mother created the best possible environment for my sister and me. Then my sister went to university. Mom was great.

She played a lot of different roles. I always called her Superwoman because she is an incredible woman. I will always be indebted to her,” the former Everton man said in quotes revealed by Olt Sports.

Lookman’s stellar performances have seen his reputation grow as he was nominated for the Ballon d’Or and is a frontrunner for the CAF Player of the Year award.
