Ex-NFF boss Amaju Pinnick pledges support for Patrice Motsepe in CAF Presidential race

Former Nigeria Football Federation President Amaju Pinnick has stated that Nigeria will support Patrice Motsepe’s bid for a second term as CAF President, Soccernet.ng reports.

South African billionaire Motsepe has been in charge of the Confederation of African Football since he took over from Ahmad Ahmad in 2021.

However, his tenure as the president of the highest Football ruling body on the continent us set to end in March 25. But Motsepe appears to still be interested in staying in charge of CAF according to reports.

Of course, remain at the helm of affairs, Motsepe would have to gain the support of a good chunk of the 54 associations on the continent. Recall that he has always had a good relationship with the former president of the NFF Pinnick. And now, although Pinnick is no longer in charge of football in Nigeria, he has affirmed that the NFF will back Motsepe’s bid.

“Definitely Nigeria will support him”, Pinnick replied when queried at an event in Ibadan on Tuesday.

Under Motsepe’s tenure as CAF President, he has increased the cash prizes for the men and women’s Africa Cup of Nations. He has also introduced a Women’s Champions League and improved the format of the male competition to involve more clubs.

Pinnick currently serves as a member of the FIFA Council, the principal decision-making organ of the organization.
