“You don’t get this every time”- Super Eagles returnee on battle with Troost-Ekong and Bassey for center-back position

Super Eagles defender Olisa Ndah has revealed that he is not bothered about winning a place in the starting eleven ahead of Nigeria’s crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers against Benin on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Ndah has been out of the Super Eagles squad since 2021 when he made his debut. However, he has been a constant in Orlando Pirates’ defense. In fact, he is now the captain of the club.

His recent impressive performances also earned him a place in Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers.

His presence in camp means that the already established defenders in the team like William Troost-Ekong and Calvin Bassey could get a run for their money.

However, he insists that he is not concerned about displacing anyone for a place in the starting eleven. Instead, he is focused on Nigeria getting all three points from the game against Benin.

“It’s a really exciting moment for me, I’m very happy to be here,” Ndah said.

“I’m grateful for this opportunity, I’m around a lot of great players, so I’m just happy to be part of the team.

“It’s a big boost for people playing in Africa. It shows the level is improving in Africa also. It’s also an opportunity, you don’t really get this often, so you take every chance as it comes.

“I would love to take my chance, but right now, we are focused on how to get back to winning ways, focused on winning on Saturday.

“It doesn’t matter who is starting, the focus is to win the game on Saturday, and we’ll take it from there.

The last time Nigeria played Benin, it was a 2-1 win for the Cheetas. Nonetheless, the Super Eagles will be looking to claim all three points when they meet in Uyo.
