Why I prefer Lukaku to Osimhen – Napoli defender

Victor Osimhen made a summer exit to Galatasaray on a season-long loan and was replaced by Romelu Lukaku who has been firing on all cylinders

Napoli defender Amir Rrahmani has revealed his preference for Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku over Victor Osimhen, following Lukaku’s impressive start to life at the Diego Maradona Stadium, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen, who was at the centre of a heated transfer saga during the 2024 summer window, expressed his desire to leave Napoli, attracting interest from top European clubs.

Despite efforts to keep the Nigerian forward, Napoli’s new manager, Antonio Conte, moved swiftly to reunite with Lukaku, having worked with the former Chelsea and Inter Milan striker.

Since his arrival, Lukaku has hit the ground running, netting two goals and providing two assists in just two appearances for Napoli.

His powerful presence on the pitch has quickly won over his teammates, including Rrahmani, who pointed out the differences between Lukaku and his predecessor, Osimhen.

Speaking after Napoli’s latest fixture, Rrahmani shared his thoughts on the contrasting styles of the two forwards, as reported by Tutto Napoli via Sky Italia.

“In previous years, we had Osimhen, who held onto the ball less and was always looking for depth,” Rrahmani explained. “With Lukaku, we can play even when under pressure. He has a strong physique, helps us secure second balls, and is able to finish off actions effectively.”

While Lukaku has started his Napoli career on a high note, Osimhen also made headlines with a solid debut for his new club, Galatasaray.

In a match against Rizespor at RAMS Park, the Nigerian forward’s header contributed to a goal, though it was eventually recorded as an assist due to a deflection off a teammate.

  • Time with tell, when you will miss osimhen who is a fighter and always inspire the whole team and osimhen is younger

  • No problem at all. Osimen won the league for Napoli. That's a height for Lukaku to scale.
Meanwhile, Osimen has moved on to conquer new territories.

  • The comparison will be concluded at the end of the season.Let's watch Lukaku win Hughes goal scorer and the serie A for Napoli as did by Osihnen .We are watching and waiting.

  • napel this is just the beginning let watch and see this season and next if he can win the trophy has Osihnen

  • Both strikers are good of a truth. But it would be better you assess them at the end of the season considering what the former striker (Osimhem) did for Napoli.
