“We want to defend our trophy” – Super Eagles striker sends warning to Celtic, others after 3-0 win over Dundee

Cyriel Dessers was linked with an exit from Rangers before the transfer window slammed shut, but the Nigerian chose to stay put.

Super Eagles and Rangers centre-forward, Cyriel Kolawole Dessers, was delighted to have found his scoring touch in his side’s 3-0 triumph over Dundee FC in their league cup clash, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 29-year-old popped a brace at home for the first time this season and was delighted to have put on a show in front of the home fans.

“It was nice to score at Hampden, but scoring at Ibrox is a different feeling. It’s a good feeling to be back and we wanted to show something to the fans and we gave them a beautiful night. I thought we played a good game and it was good to see some connections with the players up front with Nedim, Tom and Vaclav. I think you could see there was something building and growing and that’s exciting. It’s nice to play with the boys, they are all very good football players and that helps as a striker to have them around me,” the former Cremonese man said after the game in quotes revealed by Rangers’ official website.

Additionally, the Belgium-born Nigerian added Philippe Clement’s side will do everything to retain the League Cup at Ibrox, sounding a note of warning to other clubs vying for the trophy.

“We want to defend our trophy. We had success last season and it was a beautiful moment. We know the feeling and we want to have that feeling back and defend the trophy. With the connections you know by eye contact or movement you can feel each other and that’s a good thing. It is only the beginning and hopefully, that gets better,” the former Feyenoord man concluded.

After securing a return to Hampden for the semi-final, attention now turns to Thursday’s Europa League opener against Malmö at Eleda Stadion in Sweden.
