Interim Super Eagles manager, Augustine Austin Eguavoen, has revealed Nigeria will be gunning for nothing less than three points against Benin Republic, Soccernet.ng reports.
Both sides met in June in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying clash, but Gernot Rohr’s side clinched a 2-1 victory over a Nigerian team led by Finidi George.
Following a botched Bruno Labbadia appointment, the Nigerian Football Federation selected Eguavoen to lead the men’s football team on an interim basis, which meant he’d be leading the Super Eagles for the third.
Speaking ahead of Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 clash against the Benin Republic, the gaffer maintained the Super Eagles will work to right their wrongs against their opponents.
“It’s a new journey, we all know. Preparations towards the nations cup, the first game, and nothing short of winning. Expectations are high, we’re in good spirits, we’re at home, we respect people, and we expect nothing less than three points, nothing less than a win,” Eguavoen said in his pre-match conference.
Victor Osimhen was able to join the final training session after flying to Turkey to complete late move to Galatasaray. The Napoli loanee was unavailable the last time Nigeria played against Benin Republic due to an injury. He fell out with the then Nigeria coach, Finidi George shortly after, lashing out at the former Enyimba Coach for questioning his loyalty to the national team.
Nigeria were also drawn into the same 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying group against Benin Republic and Rwanda. They play against Rwanda on Tuesday.
