Nigeria’s Super Eagles have completed their first training session in Kigali ahead of their crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda, Soccernet.ng reports.
The session took place on Monday at the 30,000-capacity Stade Amahoro, the venue for Tuesday’s clash.
The team is in high spirits after their 3-0 victory over Benin Republic on Saturday, and they are keen to continue their strong form.
The training session was focused, with head coach Augustine Eguavoen and his assistants drilling the squad on tactical play and formations that will be crucial against Rwanda.
Speaking about the team’s readiness, Eguavoen expressed confidence in his players, highlighting their versatility.
“We have the quality of players who can play different styles of football, different systems, and formations. So, whatever formation we choose tomorrow, we have the personnel to execute it effectively,” said the interim coach.
Nigeria’s victory over Benin in Uyo came courtesy of two goals from Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman and a strike from new Galatasaray signing Victor Osimhen.
With the team in form, the Super Eagles are looking to build on their successful start and secure another win in Kigali.
The clash with Rwanda is an important fixture for both sides. A win for Nigeria would put them on the brink of AFCON qualification, needing just two more victories to seal their spot in the tournament.
Rwanda, meanwhile, drew 1-1 with Libya in their opening match and will be hoping to boost their own chances with a win.
Eguavoen emphasised the importance of maintaining focus and not underestimating their opponents.
“You don’t look down on anybody these days because football has improved. So when you joke with it, you can get shocked. But we will be on our feet,” he said, adding that Rwanda would be raising their game against a strong Nigerian side.

I think NFF should allow Eguavoen and his men for super eagle job for now.
They have good plans for the team and themselves.
They want to rewrite their names.
