Umar Sadiq set for Real Sociedad start v Real Madrid as struggling Super Eagles star seeks redemption

Real Sociedad forward Umar Sadiq is poised for his first La Liga start of the season this weekend as his side faces Real Madrid, Soccernet.ng reports.

With key striker Mikel Oyarzabal out due to injury and new signing Orri Óskarsson still adjusting, the Nigerian striker is ready to seize this chance to revive his stalling career.

Sadiq, who has rejected numerous transfer offers, including interest from Sevilla and Getafe, has struggled since joining Sociedad in 2022.

After a promising start, scoring against Atlético Madrid on his debut, he suffered a devastating knee injury, tearing his cruciate ligament.

This injury sidelined him for an entire year, and his return has been underwhelming. Sadiq has scored just four goals in 42 official matches, and his confidence has been shaken by his inconsistent performances.

The 27-year-old has not scored at the Anoeta Stadium since November 2023, and the pressure is mounting.

His last goal came six months ago in a 2-3 victory against Granada, and his performances have left fans and coach Imanol Alguacil frustrated.

Despite these setbacks, Sadiq has continued to fight for his place at the club, rejecting the chance to leave during the January transfer window.

With Real Madrid up next, the Nigerian striker has a chance to prove his worth.

Despite his inconsistent form, Sadiq remains motivated for this weekend’s clash with Real Madrid, having worked hard during the international break, aiming to take advantage of this new opportunity.

With a fresh chance to shine, Sadiq hopes to add Real Madrid to his limited list of ‘victims’ and finally silence his critics at Real Sociedad.
