Remo Stars coach Daniel Ogunmodede has expressed his willingness to take the Super Eagles Eagles assistant job permanently, Soccernet.ng reports.
Over the years, the Nigeria Football Federation have kept up with the tradition of appointing the best Nigeria Premier Football League coaches as assistants in the national team on a part-time basis. Recall that last season, Ilechukwu led Enugu Rangers to the NPFL title, while Ogunmodede, popularly known as ‘Ijabal’ finished second with Remo Stars.
Due to the coaches’ performances, before the international break, the NFF announced that Ogunmodede and Ilechukwu would join Augustine Eguavoen as temporary assistants.
For both coaches, it is their first time in the Super Eagles fold. However, they started on a good note as Nigeria claimed an impressive 3-0 win over Benin in their first game of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
After their win against Benin, coach Ogunmodede was queried about his willingness to continue in his role on a permanent basis, and he stated that he was open to accepting the role.
“Any good thing that comes from the national team, I almost can not say no. Most especially if it comes from the head coach. If he wants me to be with him, I can’t say no. If the Federation wants me, I can’t say no,” Ogunmodede said.
The Super Eagles’ next game is against Rwanda in Kigali, and a victory for them could see Ilechukwu and Ogunmodede become regulars with the national team.
