Super Eagles stars Olisa Ndah and Stanley Nwabali were in action in Orlando Pirates’ hard-fought 2-1 win over Chippa United at the Orlando Stadium, Soccernet.ng reports.
Ndah captained Orlando Pirates when they welcomed Chippa United in their opening game of the South African Premier League.
The two Nigerian players have been integral to their clubs in previous seasons, and they were expected to continue in that stead in the new campaign.
Chippa United had a dream start, as Abdile Jali scored the opener 22 minutes into the fixture. However, Nwabali was beaten in stoppage time of the first half. Tshegofatso Mabasa won a penalty for Orlando Pirates, and he cooly converted to draw level before the break.
In the second half, Orlando Pirates came out with their guns blazing, but they failed to score. Even Ndah had a goal attempt, but it was not good enough to trouble the goalkeeper.
Their pressing yielded fruits in the dying embers of the game, as Monnapule Saleng scored the winning goal for Orlando Pirates to guarantee them the three points.
Although Nwabali was on the losing side, he registered five saves, four of which were from inside the box. In fact, he was Chippa United’s best player in the game.
Meanwhile, Ndah also had a solid showing as he had a 95% pass accuracy, and two blocked shots.
